Acupuncture, as a safe effective complement modality can ease a woman through those different phases and help to ensure a comfortable and healthy pregnancy.

According to different trimesters, we have different focuses.

Second trimester, week 14-27, many changes take place in the mother’s body. Babies grow up pretty quickly and require more nutrients from their mother. Acupuncture during this trimester is important for regulating the digestive, nervous and cardiovascular systems, as well as the endocrine system, all of which are necessary to maintain a healthy, full-term pregnancy, such as anemia, heart-burning, leg cramps and so on.

Third trimester, week 28-40, acupuncture is used to regulate the musculoskeletal system to provide relief from sciatica, backache, pubic and joint pain. Due to enlarged uterine which cause blocked venous return, like hemorrhoids, edema, high blood pressure and shortness of breath. Treatment during the third trimester also encourages the proper positioning of the baby for birth and helps normalize and optimize labor. Pre-birth Acupuncture can reduce the length of labor, prevent overdue births, and accelerate cervical ripening and dilation which can reduce the need for medical inductions, pain medication and epidurals, and emergency c-sections, and increases the likelihood of a normal vaginal birth.
