What is Longevity Medicine?

Longevity Medicine applies scientific and medical technologies for the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related discomforts and diseases. This includes genetic, physiological and nutritional testing to develop a customized plan for keeping your body supported and nourished.

Causes of Age-Related Cognitive Decline:

Many factors contribute to age-related cognitive decline including:

  • Oxidative stress and free radical damage
  • Declining hormone levels
  • Insulin resistance
  • Obesity
  • Suboptimal nutrition
  • High stress

Symptoms of Cognitive Decline:

Everyone will develop some degree of decline in cognitive capacity, usually including the following symptoms:

  • Forgetfulness
  • Decreased ability to maintain focus
  • Decreased problem solving capacity

If left unchecked, symptoms often progress into more serious conditions. Book an appointment with our Cognitive Impairment Specialist, Dr. Harlan South, M.D., for a personalized health evaluation for your unique condition. Dr. South works closely with Dr. Lonnele Ball PhD, the director and chief scientist at the Institute for Predictive Medicine & Longevity. They apply state-of-the-art technologies towards the analysis of genetics, diagnostic and behavioral data in order to predict an individual’s disease risk.

Hormones and Anti-Aging

Longevity medicine specifically looks at one’s hormone levels to check if they are in balance. As we age, our sex hormones often decline. Receptors for sex hormones, such as testosterone and estrogen, are located throughout the body. Declining levels of these hormones can begin as early as in the late twenties to early thirties, and be a sign of premature aging.

A person may not become symptomatic from decreasing hormone levels until they have reached their late forties or later. A person may then begin to complain about fatigue, mood shifts, or decreased sexual function.

With appropriate hormone supplementation, patients often regain their zest and energy level. More specifically, bio-identical hormone therapy is considered relatively safe since they are derived from plants and mimic our body’s sex hormones. Once sex hormones levels are enhanced, a person’s brain power, sex drive, and energy levels are boosted.

Our goal at Advanced Health is to first optimize one’s health and then to create a maintenance plan so a person can age gracefully. By keeping a your hormone levels in balance in conjunction with a balanced diet, you can reach your optimal level of health and enjoy a great quality of life.
