Our body’s immune system protects us from disease and infection. If you have an autoimmune disorder, your immune system will attack healthy cells in your body by mistake. There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases affecting different parts of the body.
Autoimmune disorders often have similar symptoms and hence, cause making a diagnosis very difficult. The first symptoms is often fatigue, low grade fever, muscle and/or joint pain, all reflective of too much inflammation inside the body.

What is Inflammation?
Inflammation is the body’s attempt to protect itself by trying to remove foreign substances from the body, and start the healing process. Although inflammation helps heal wounds, too much acute or chronic inflammation is harmful to the body.
Two Types Of Inflammation:
Acute Inflammation begins fast and lasts for a few days to possibly a few weeks. It can become severe quickly. Some examples of acute inflammation are the common cold, the flu, bronchitis, headache, or joint pain. A person may experience pain, redness, heat, being flushed, or swollen.
Chronic Inflammation lasts for several months to years. It occurs from chronic exposure to a low-intensity irritant/toxin or an autoimmune response to an allergen. Allergies, arthritis, heart disease, thyroid disorder, diabetes, and most cancers are linked to chronic inflammation.
Autoimmune disorders are often diagnosed by the particular organ that is affected versus not being recognized as a disorder of the entire immune system. Individual with autoimmune diseases will often see a specialist who only focuses on one organ system. For example, those with joint pain will see a rheumatologist. Those with skin inflammation such as eczema and psoriasis will see a dermatologist. Those with non-alcoholic hepatitis, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease will see a gastroenterologist. It becomes very confusing and frustrating for these patients since these specialists often only look at a particular organ and not the whole body. They often just treat suppression of chronic inflammation, not strengthening the immune system.
At Advanced Health Dr. Payal Bhandari M.D. investigates the entire immune system. She does not just make a diagnosis and jump to prescribing immunosuppressive drugs plagued with tons of side effects. Dr. Bhandari instead determines exactly what the immune system needs on a cellular level and defines a personalized treatment plan to reverse autoimmune disorders. Dr. Bhandari M.D. works closely with Advanced Health’s expert Manual Osteopath Julie Duggan to restore proper motion and functioning of targeted tissues, organs, and glands. Julie’s experienced hands help regulate the nervous system via gentle, deep techniques which have been clinically shown to impact specific areas of the brain where memory, decision-making and emotional response to stress are processed.
Together, Dr. Bhandari M.D. and Julie Duggan B.Sc. drive positive results quickly.
